For the last month and a half, all through the city, parks have been full of people. With masks and without, social distancing and not, riding virus infested citibikes that are used by all. Coughing, sneezing, touching, hugging and some even sharing drinks. Doing everything the city says not do.
So all the Karen's, social distance shamers and fearful out there, I have an idea . Think of those park goers as Guinea pigs. You have all age groups, young to old. Both sexes, all genders, races and every fitness level you can think of. Need to know if it's safe to line up to vote? Just take a look at the line at Home Depot. You couldn't ask for a better experiment group.
"But they will infect me!" you say. But how you're not going outside right? And when you do you wear a mask and gloves right?
"But they'll make the lock down last longer!" Come on lets be honest, you weren't gonna come out until long after the city opened anyway.
"But we need to flatten the curve!" Well despite all these dread violators, the hospital admissions and deaths have gone down. Don't take my word for it, this coming directly from state officials. The state wide covid deaths yesterday were 260, and we know a many of those are in nursing homes.
I meet with a group of 30 or so people every week in the park, most wear no protection at all. We've been having these meetings for over 2 months and I can happily say no one has died. Could they have been infected? Sure its always a possibility, but despite what you've been told infection is not automatic death.
So when you see masses of people if you dare get close to a window, take off your mask and gloves in your decontamination room and give them a cheer. Because like the pioneers who braved west ward expansion, they are making sure the path is clear for you.
