NY's Surprise Covid Numbers Not Really a Surprise

Perhaps you haven’t heard the news today about the newest covid numbers in NY state. The Governor thought they were quite surprising. 66% of hospitalizations were people who stayed at home, 18% were people in nursing homes. 2% were the homeless and 1% were people in jail. Lets take a look at them individually.

NY Daily News - 'Shocking’: 66% of new coronavirus patients in N.Y. stayed home: Cuomo

66% covid

1% Jail The city went out of its way to release almost a thousand prisoners, people they say who were at risk. Ok so they released prisoners from prison to protect them from the virus into an environment where they say going out is death? But of course since many of those prisoners have no job (because everything is closed) they went back to a life of crime and returned to prison...

2% Homeless Of all the homeless in NYC you’d expect this number to be higher. But lets close down the subways from 1am to 5am to clean them because those homeless are gonna give you covid . So what good is 4 hours of cleaning if they will be dirty again in an hour with, 19 until the next cleaning? Why not clean them all through the day?

18% Nursing Home Remember those prisoners the city released to protect? Well that same standard doesn’t apply to nursing homes. They house our most vulnerable yet Governor Cuomo mandated the infected be admitted. And when asked about he literally shrugged saying I don’t know. 5,000 people in our most vulnerable sector die and you refuse to change those policies? Now they are the second most infected in the state and you are surprised?

Lets move on, gotta watch my blood pressure.

66% Home 66% percent of those hospitalized followed the rules. Yes they stayed home and used PPE just like the were told to. But here’s the problem - As per the CDC and the WHO, improper use of PPE can increase your risk of infection.

The guidelines the city gave were not based in science and they never explained to people the proper way to use PPE.

That surgical mask you’ve wearing for the last 10 days became ineffective after the first 6-8 hours. That cute mask you bought online, did you read the fine print? Bets its for dust and pollen not viruses. A scarf or a bandanna? That's like asking a police officer to wear a heavy sweater instead of a bullet proof vest. But it helps right?
Then there's that meme about peeing in pants. News flash a virus is microscopic. Its like peeing in fishnet pants. Breathe through a scarf when it cold, what do you see

Then there people with gloves that weren’t meant to touch multiple surfaces because all you are doing is spreading the infection. If your gloves are infected and touch your phone or wallet, guess what, they are now infected too.

Those packages in the supermarket that the cashier with the infected gloves handles? You know the ones you put away at home with your bare hands. But worst of all is when you pay with that completely infected wallet, money is nasty, but at home you gladly take of your gloves and count it.

And you are surprised that 66% hospitalized were those that did as directed?

Locking yourself at home during a virus is like locking yourself at home with a tiger. If you don’t know how to properly protect yourself you are gonna wind up getting eaten.
