New York City has had a rash of hate crimes for the last 3 years and it doesn't seem to be letting up. Just the other day a 61 year old Asian man was brutally beaten and killed, the motive was a hate crime.
People attacked in the street, even in broad daylight, their attackers bold and uncaring. When someone says hate crime most have a picture in mind, a white male in patriotic gear waving a rebel flag, probably part of a white supremacist group. But what no one wants to talk about is who is actually committing many of these acts because that would mean hard questions had to be answered.
NBC News - 'Nowhere is safe': Asian women reflect on brutal New York City killings
Two brutal killings in the span of less than a month have left Asian American women in New York City on edge. And in metropolitan areas around the country, they say there’s constant reason to be looking over their shoulder.
“I don’t feel like anywhere is safe for me,” said YouMe Lin, 27, a Chinese American woman who has lived in New York City for over six years. “I feel very suffocated.”
Anti Asian hate crime in NYC is a daily occurrence that was happening way before covid. The media reports it and people gasp about it but not with the zeal that they do for other groups. No BLM, no woke protests or calls for a swift conviction, just a shrug and back to Tik Tok videos like a day at the office. The media doesn't make the race of the attacker known front and center and the talking heads don't bloviate about racial justice. They assume mental health issues, a non fact based judgment that seems tailored to certain attacks. Why is this you may ask, surely we must condemn white supremacy right? And there lies the problem because in almost all of the instances of Asian hate crime the attacker is Black.
Newly elected mayor Adams declared he needed protection from white supremacist groups, a request that was cheered by many. But what was dismissed was a threat that if from a white supremacist group would have brought the FBI down in tactical amor ready to take the threat down with extreme prejudice.
NY Post - De Blasio won’t address BLM leader’s threat of ‘bloodshed’ on streets
"On Wednesday, Adams, a former NYPD captain, met with Newsome to discuss his plan to reinstate a revamped version of the undercover units, which were dissolved amid local BLM protests sparked by the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
Afterward, Newsome said, “If they think they are going back to the old ways of policing, then we’re going to take to the streets again.”
Newsome said that there would be "fire" and "bloodshed" if the units are reinstated."
When the statement was made the mayor in office, Deblasio, avoided comment something for any other group he would never do. Imagine if a Proud Boy had said that or anyone who doubts the last election? You don't have to guess because the FBI has had them in prison for over a year with no trial, hate being assigned as their motivation with no proof to prove it so.
This rash of hate crime attacks are not limited to Asians, Jewish people have been suffering as well. Like the Asian community these attacks predate covid and the race of the perpetrator in NYC is almost always black. Once again you wouldn't know this because with the media, the race of the attacker only matters when they are white and they make excuses why not to reveal it when the person is Black.
NBC News - It's not just New York: Anti-Jewish attacks are part of a wave of 'more violent' hate crimes
"Five people stabbed during a Hanukkah celebration in Monsey, New York. Four killed in a shooting at a Jersey City grocery store. A Brooklyn woman hit in the head as she walked with her child.
The rash of anti-Semitic attacks gripping the New York-New Jersey area may feel like chilling coincidences, but statistics show they’re part of a wave of anti-Semitic violence that has risen across the country over the past half-decade."
Now before you get in a tizzy I'm not saying only Blacks commit hates crimes, attackers in racial and religious incidents have no exclusivity. What I am saying is there is a definite bias in how different races are seen in these crimes and that's not how it should be. You can not defeat hate if you give certain groups a pass. Many don't believe that, often making excuses for hate crimes and all too often they happen to be those with with influence. It's not their fault they claim in statements that quickly turn into unconscious racism, giving cover for attackers to say they are justified and have a reason.
Washington times - ‘White supremacy’ causes Black citizens to commit anti-Asian hate crimes, Colorado prof claims
"A critical race studies and ethnic studies professor at the University of Colorado-Boulder says Americans wondering why Black citizens commit anti-Asian hate crimes have an answer: “White supremacy.”
The educational watchdog Campus Reform spotlighted the commentary of Jennifer Ho, which preceded President Biden’s newly signed legislation aimed at combatting hate crimes against Asian Americans.
“Anti-Asian racism has the same source as anti-Black racism: White supremacy,” Ms. Ho wrote for The Conversation. “So when a Black person attacks an Asian person, the encounter is fueled perhaps by racism, but very specifically by White supremacy. White supremacy does not require a White person to perpetuate it.”"
"White supremacy does not require a White person to perpetuate it.”??????
Hate is hate period, flat stop, that's how it should be. History that happened almost 200 years ago is no pass to commit acts of hate by anyone today. Covid is no reason to attack Asians as they are suffering with us too and random attacks on the Jewish community should be condemned with the same vigour that people accuse others of being nazis. Anyone who commits a hate crime, white, black, tan or hell even green is wrong and should be punished to the full extent of the law. But for that to happen we must first admit who the players are in these crimes otherwise we are fostering the hate ourselves.
