Hurricanes happen every year with the ability to kill hundreds of thousands yet most don’t bat an eye. Governors watch closely, analyzing the data, weighing carefully how they should respond. No immediate calls for a state or emergency or mandates of any kind, science guiding their process as it should be. But not with covid.

Another variant and everyone goes full panic. It doesn’t matter that there is no data to suggest it’s worse than any before it, that most are vaccinated or that we have several treatments. It’s back to the mindset of March 2020 as if we had learned nothing. The media prints dire headlines making millions on clicks and the fearful readily submit to politicians drunk on the easy power. Like the flu, there will always be variants and as long as we surrender our rights without question, government will eagerly keep taking
