The 2020 Election
In 2020 Biden had a decisive victory with 306 electoral points and 81.2 million in the popular vote, he had a mandate. Trump was toxic to many Republicans after the Jan 6 riots and banned on all social media. His Truth Social platform was a bust sending him into obscurity and further adding to Bidens win. But for democrats that wasn’t enough. They were obsessed with “Getting Trump” and would stop at nothing to do it.
Jan 6
Democrats tried to impeach Trump after he left office, it failed. They then formed the Jan 6 committee with the stated goal of preventing Trump from ever holding office again under the guise of a nonpartisan investigation. He was deemed guilty before the investigation even began. In their efforts, Democrats pushed the word “insurrection” even though the DOJ said no such crime occurred. This was echoed by partisans, but instead of hurting Trump, it gave a man that was fading into obscurity new life.
The Prosecutions
There is nothing wrong with prosecuting someone for a crime but the way it was done seemed unfair to anyone who wasn’t partisan. After 4 years of repeated failed attempts to remove Trump from office, many questioned these prosecutions, but Democrats didn’t care. Voters were skeptical of the double standards, need to speed through trials and take shortcuts or disregard due process rights. It looked like big government against a single man and the only thing Democrats succeeded in in doing was making Trump a martyr.
Disconnect with the People
62% of people across the country are living paycheck to paycheck, struggling to make ends meet but Democrats told them the economy was fine. When anyone disagreed, they were scolded, “You just don't understand.” This was Democrats answer to anything people didn’t see eye to eye them about. Any concerns were dismissed as trivial, misguided or misinformation. This made Democrats look like snobbish elites who knew better than those they were supposed to represent resulting in losing vast parts of their base.
Orange Man Bad
For years Democrats told voters Trump was evil, a fascist, and a dictator. They said he was Hitler, would take away all your rights and refuse to leave office. The problem with that was people had 4 years of his presidency to refer to and those things never happened. But that didn’t stop Democrats. They pushed the narrative fueled by their self-admitted hatred not realising they were hurting their own cause. They desperately wanted independents to believe their openly stated bias, giving proof that often-lacked context or was an outright lie. But the internet remembers and those paying attention saw it for what it was, partisan rhetoric.
Saving Democracy by Destroying it
Democrats made their rallying cry “saving democracy” but their actions seemed far from it. Many Democrat groups and politicians openly plotted to remove Trump from the ballot in what anyone who can read saw was unconstitutional. SCOTUS in one of its finer moments unanimously agreed the act was unconstitutional. And to top that, liberal leaning justices were the most critical of the attempt.
Further “saving democracy”, Democrats prevented any opposition in their own primaries and crowned Biden winner. Then when they thought they couldn’t win with him, they disregarded the will of 14 million voters and installed a candidate who never received a single vote in 2016 or 2020. They topped that by suing to remove other left-leaning candidates from the general election. To those outside of partisan circles, this did not resemble saving democracy, it seemed just the opposite.
The Candidate Who Wouldn’t Answer Questions
Kamala Harris was VP but relatively unknown. She failed miserably in her 2016 debates and had not debated at all for the 2024 presidential nomination. Her history with interviews was poor at best and after her nomination, she refused to answer even simple questions from the press. Instead, she did scripted rallies using talking points that centered around how Trump was dangerous rather than policy. That may have been great for her partisan faithful but not for independents. When she finally did open herself to the press, even a good debate performance couldn’t improve her numbers. Fellow Democrats called her answers a “word salad”.
The Black Vote
The Democrats took the Black vote for granted and placed all its focus on immigration. They spoke of programs and funds for undocumented migrants while ignoring the plights of Black Americans. This was evident when the DNC convention took place in Chicago and not far away Blacks were being shot every 2 hours 47 minutes. In cities like NYC, undocumented migrants were treated better than Black locals, receiving assistance they could only dream of.
When Democrats finally addressed the Black community, it was with promises of things like legal weed, reparations and ”free” money. All promises made before but unkept. When that didn’t work, they belittled Blacks resistance to back Harris rather than asking why. Much like Hilary Clinton, democrats thought that demonising over half the country calling them things like misogynists, racists and Nazis would win votes. History has proven it does not.
The Results
All these actions did was help Trumps assertions about Democrats prove to be true. Were they true? As someone once told me, it’s not about what you do, it’s about the perception of what you are doing. Democrats gave the perception they didn’t care about the voter, only winning. “Vote for me not because of my policies, but because the other guy is bad and I want to win”.
Bret Bair asked, “If Trump is such a bad person, how is he doing so well in the polls?”. Kamala’s answer “Elections aren’t easy”. If a person with several indictments and a conviction is not easy to beat, it is not unreasonable for a voter to wonder about the quality of the candidate trying. It’s no wonder Trump won by a landslide and is the first Republican to win the popular vote since 2004.
To Democrats who read this far I offer this: Sometimes the problem is you.
